Waxing

Ski waxing is the process of applying ski wax to the base of skis to improve their glide and durability. There are different waxes and waxing methods depending on snow temperature and track condition. Here are the general steps for waxing:

1/ Preparation: clean the base of the skis by removing snow and ice, then use a hard-bristle brush to remove dirt and previous wax residue.

2/ Choose the wax: choose the wax adapted to the temperature of the snow and the season

3/ Apply the wax: Apply the wax to the base of the skis using a waxing iron or cloth to distribute the wax evenly .

4 / Melting the wax: Use a waxing iron to melt the wax and work it into the pores of the base of the skis.< /span>

5/ Removing excess: Use a stiff bristle brush to remove excess wax from the base of the skis.

6 / Finishing: Use a fine-bristle brush to polish the base of the skis and improve glide.

It is important to note that waxing should be repeated regularly, depending on the use of the skis and the snow condition.

Sharpening

Ski sharpening is the process of sharpening the edges of skis to improve their performance on hard or icy snow. Here are the general steps for sharpening skis:

1 / Preparation: Remove snow and ice from the base of the skis, and secure the skis in a vice to hold them in place while sharpening.

2 / Choose the sharpening tools: choose the appropriate tools to sharpen the skis, such as whetstones, sharpening irons, metal files or grinders.

3 / Sharpen the edges: Sharpen the edges of the skis using the chosen tools, following the manufacturer’s instructions for using these tools. It is important to maintain a constant angle to ensure uniform sharpening.

4 / Check the equality of the edges: check that the edges are equal and rectify if necessary.

5 / Polish the edges: Use a polishing stone to improve the edge finish and ensure a smoother glide.

6 / Slip test: Carry out a slip test to check that the sharpening is correct.

It is important to note that the sharpening should be repeated regularly, depending on the use of the skis and the snow condition.

Sole brushing and repair

Repairing a pair of skis can include several different types of work, such as repairing dents or cracks, replacing edges or bases, or re-waxing and sharpening. Here are the general steps to repair a pair of skis:

1 / Assessment of repair needed: examine the skis to determine the repairs needed.

2 / Preparation: Remove snow and ice from the base of the skis, and secure the skis in a vice to hold them in place during the repair.

3/ Repairing dents and cracks: use a mixture of epoxy resin and hardener to fill the dents and cracks, then use a tool to smooth the surface.

4 / Replacement of edges or soles: remove damaged edges or soles, then replace them with new ones.

5 / Re-waxing and sharpening: repeat the waxing and sharpening steps to improve the performance of the skis.

6 / Slip test: perform a slip test to verify that the repair is correct.

Some repairs should be left to professionals to ensure efficient and safe work.
